Promised at birth to a neighboring kingdom’s young Prince Phillip, Princess Aurora was gifted with great beauty and song by the kingdoms fairies.
She was not only blessed but cursed that same day by the evil Maleficent, who tells everyone that she will die by the prick of a spindle before she reaches her 16th birthday.
The fairies hide the princess to try and prevent this great travesty from occurring.
They raise her in a cottage in the middle of the forest, where she plays with its creatures and blossoms into a beautiful young woman.
“Briar Rose,” the name that the good fairies gave to her, met a peasant boy and even though they did not know who each other were, they fell madly in love.
Finally, thinking the young princess is old enough to know her birthright, she’s told her story by the fairies and sadness falls upon her. She thinks that she must abandon her love for her “right and royal duty,” which is to marry Prince Phillip. Then, just as she is about to find out that Prince Phillip and the peasant boy that she had fallen in love with are actually the same person, she is struck by Maleficent’s Curse. All seems dark, except for a glimmer of hope that she can be awakened from her eternal slumber by true loves kiss.
Waiting for Prince Phillip to try and find Aurora, Maleficent’s minions capture him at Aurora’s cottage. Armed with the magical Sword of Truth and the Shield of Virtue, Phillip and the fairies escape from the Forbidden Mountain.
Prince Phillip comes to rescue the princess but has to get through Maleficent, who has transformed into a fire breathing dragon. Finally Prince Phillip slays her with a deathly blow to the heart and climbs up to Sleeping Beauty’s Tower. That is when The Prince and Aurora share true loves kiss and thus the Sleeping Beauty Fairy Tale lives…
